There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Your experiences, relationships, identities, and goals are your own, so therapy should be shaped around you.
At Take Root Therapy, we work collaboratively. We’ll get to know what brings you in, what matters to you, and what you hope will change. Together, we’ll explore the patterns and experiences that may be affecting how you feel today and find ways of working that feel useful and manageable.
A thoughtful, collaborative process
We start by getting to know you.
Therapy begins with listening. We want to understand your concerns, strengths, relationships, and the experiences that have shaped you. You don’t have to arrive with everything figured out.
We look for patterns and possibilities.
As we get to know you, we may explore how past experiences, current relationships, and coping strategies connect to what’s happening now. The goal is greater understanding—not judgment.
We shape the work around your goals.
Your therapist will work with you to identify what you want from therapy and choose approaches that fit your needs, preferences, and pace. That may include conversation, practical tools, reflection, or creative work.
We check in and adjust together.
Therapy is an ongoing relationship. You can tell your therapist what feels helpful, what doesn’t, and what you’d like to focus on. Your feedback helps shape the work.
Approaches our therapists may draw from
Our clinicians have different training and areas of focus. Depending on your goals and your therapist’s training, sessions may draw from:
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Art therapy and creative interventions
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
- Ecotherapy and somatic approaches
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
- Gottman Method Couples Therapy
- Mindfulness-based approaches
- Motivational Interviewing
- Narrative and psychodynamic therapy
- Person-centered and relational approaches
- Solution-Focused Brief Therapy
- Spiritual or religiously integrated approaches
Not every therapist uses every approach. Your therapist can explain their training and talk with you about what may be a good fit.
Care that makes room for all of you
Your background and the world around you can shape how you experience stress, relationships, and mental health. We aim to meet you with curiosity and cultural humility, making room for the many parts of your identity and experience. Our practice is LGBTQ+ affirming and welcomes diverse and alternative relationships.
